Mixing Technology Fundamentals

Power Calculation Theory

The power required by an agitator is calculated using the power number (Nₚ):

P = Nₚ × ρ × N³ × D⁵

Where P is power (W), Nₚ is power number, ρ is density (kg/m³), N is rotational speed (rev/s), and D is impeller diameter (m).

Scale-Up Principles

Different scale-up methods prioritize different mixing aspects:

Scale Factor = (V₂ / V₁)¹/³

Where V₁ is lab volume and V₂ is production volume. Methods include constant power/volume, tip speed, Reynolds number, or mixing time.
