Mixing Technology Fundamentals

Power Calculation Theory

The power required by an agitator is calculated using the power number (Nₚ):

P = Nₚ × ρ × N³ × D⁵

Where:
P = power (W)
Nₚ = power number
ρ = density (kg/m³)
N = rotational speed (rev/s)
D = impeller diameter (m)

Scale-Up Principles

Different scale-up methods prioritize different mixing aspects:

Scale Factor = (V₂ / V₁)¹/³

Where:
V₁ = lab volume
V₂ = production volume
Methods include constant power/volume, tip speed, Reynolds number, or mixing time.
